Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Prepares, maintains and interprets health records to school authorities, teachers and parents on health and hygiene problem, such as reasons for absenteeism
• Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees
• Arranges to transport sick or injured students or employees to hospitals, home, or a dentist or doctor’s office in cases of emergency
• Performs visual and auditory screening examinations of students
• Assists the school physician and assists in school immunization clinics
• Inspects the school plant and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions
• Orders, inventories and oversees first aid and related supplies and equipment
• Coordinate, store, and oversee the administration of student medications as required
• Consults staff members concerning a variety of health factors related to nonattendance, communicable disease and the general health of students
• Performs other duties as may be assigned by the administration

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the New York State Education Department from a course qualified for Registered Professional Nurse
• Must possess a license issued by NYS to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
• Good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques
• Working knowledge of material medica, dietetics, sanitation and personal hygiene
• Ability to efficiently utilize software programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to understand and follow technical, oral and written instructions
• Ability to keep records, make reports and plan
• Ability to get along well with students, teachers, parents and others
• Ability to carry out successfully the therapeutic measures prescribed
• Good observation, mental alertness, firmness, initiative, cheerfulness, patience, emotional stability, sympathetic attitude toward the sick, and good moral character
