Job Description

Basic Functions:

The position of Assistant Principal is a twelve (12) month assignment. The person assigned to this position shall be responsible to the Superintendent of Schools through the Building Principal. The Assistant Principal will assume 9-12 duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Pupils
    1. Assume student discipline responsibility for students in grades 9-12.
    2. Assume responsibility for bus discipline for students in grades 9-12.
    3. Assist in administering the district testing program.
  2. Public Relations
    1. Assists in scheduling and coordinating parent-teacher conferences for grades 9-12.
    2. Produce articles for the district newsletter.
    3. Demonstrate willingness to become involved in community activities.
    4. Assist with survey development and community outreach.
  3. Curriculum Development
    1. Assist the building principals in monitoring the academic program for compliance with federal, state, and local mandates.
    2. Assist the building principals in monitoring and operating the academic program.
    3. Assist in the evaluation of academic program effectiveness.
  4. Staff Recruitment and Development
    1. Assist in the responsibility of a new teacher orientation program.
    2. Assist the building principal in conducting meetings, faculty meetings, and trainings.
    3. Assist the building principal with staff recruitment.
    4. Assist the building principal with staff evaluation.
  5. Miscellaneous
    1. Assist the building principal with the updating of student and teacher handbooks.
    2. Maintain records of pupil disciplinary activity and actions.
    3. Serve as a member of the Administrative Council.
    4. Supervise and complete APPR for teachers.
    5. Assist the Principal in completing the SSEC report.
    6. Supervise night events and other school trips.
    7. Investigate bullying complaints/issues.
    8. Assume responsibilities of building principal in their absence, as necessary
    9. Serve as District Summer School Coordinator.
    10. Assume other duties as assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
Job Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. New York Certification in Administration and/or Supervision.
  2. Evidence of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.
  3. High energy level, enthusiasm, and self-motivated.
  4. Effective communication skills.
  5. Ability and interest in working with detail.
  6. Good interpersonal skills.
  7. Evidence of leadership skills.
