Job Description

           1.                     Prepares, maintains and interprets health records to school authorities, teachers and parents on health and hygiene problems, such as reasons for absenteeism;

            2.         Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees;

           3.         Arranges to transport sick or injured students or employees to hospitals, home, doctor’s or dentist’s office in cases of emergency;

            4.         Performs visual and auditory screening examinations of students;

            5.         Assists school physician and assist in school immunization clinics;

            6.         Inspects the school plant and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions;

            7.         Orders, inventories and oversees first aid and related supplies and equipment;

          8.         Consults staff members concerning a variety of health factors related to nonattendance, communicable disease and the general health of students;

            9.         Performs other duties as may be assigned by the administration.

 

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

          1.         Graduation from a school of nursing approved by the New York State Education Department from a course qualified for Registered Professional Nurse;

            2.         Must possess a license issued by NYS to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.

            3.         Good knowledge of nursing principles and techniques;

            4.         Working knowledge of material medica, dietetics, sanitation and personal hygiene;  

            5.         Ability to understand and follow technical, oral and written instructions;

            6.         Ability to keep records, make reports and plan;

            7.         Ability to get along well with students, teachers, parents and others;

            8.         Ability to carry out successfully the therapeutic measures prescribed;

       9.         Good observation, mental alertness, firmness, initiative, cheerfulness, patience, emotional stability, sympathetic attitude toward the sick, good moral character and good physical condition.
