High School Principal

Description:

The High School Principal is the instructional leader of the building and has total building-level responsibility for the administration of all programs, supervision of students and school personnel, and management of school facilities. The High School Principal is responsible for continuing curriculum development and revising the building staff in coordination with the Superintendent. The High School Principal is responsible for the completion of all administrative details necessary to maintain a superior instructional program and an efficient operation of the school. The High School Principal is considered a 12-month administrative position and reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools in all administrative matters and in areas related to hiring and dismissal of personnel.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements long and short-range goals and objectives in accordance with clearly defined district priorities and initiatives.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining a healthy and safe environment for students and staff.
  • Recommends to the Superintendent certified and qualified candidates for teaching and appropriate support staff positions.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and subsequent improvement of building-level programs.
  • Develops and monitors the school building budget, including evaluating current and new programs and their impact on the school building.
  • Establishes and implements procedures related to maintaining appropriate student conduct in a firm, fair, and consistent manner.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a school master schedule.
  • Evaluates teachers and appropriate support staff.
  • Monitor student achievement progress, including but not limited to graduation rate, Regents passing and mastery rates, College/AP scores, and local course credit grades.
  • Communicate building needs to the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Serves on District Wide Committees at the request of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
  • Reviews and acts upon requests for the use of school property by all groups.
  • Responsible for organizing and conducting staff development and training programs.
  • Is cognizant of and insures implementation and enforcement of all Federal, State, and Board Policy Regulations.
  • Works with other principals, directors, and teachers to ensure consistency and articulation of the instruction program throughout the district.
  • Keeps informed of and interprets the laws, statutes, programs, philosophy, and policies of the district to staff and community at large as they relate to the high school instructional program.
  • Acts as a liaison between the district and community organizations in matters concerning the high school instructional program.
  • Serves as a member of the administrative team.
  • Assists in the development and review of district policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
